New PSM!
I'm launching the new Pinkslipmedia today! The old site was built with an ancient version of Wordpress -- and as a passionate Drupal user, it only made sense to switch. In doing so, I've been able to play with a few new toys, and I'll point out a few here.
- Cufon, which I have been consistently raving about, is powering the pretty cursive font (a free font from a cool local foundry, Chank.) It's a little javascript rendering engine that converts specified text into an image using the font of your choice. After pulling out my hair with sIFR (which uses Flash to render the text), I've found Cufon to be a breath of fresh air for it's ease and nice degradation.
- Used IE PNG Fix to get the transparent PNGs to work in Internet Explorer 6... hoping to use a new fancy jQuery IE6 PNG solution, but I was unable to make it work for some reason.
- To create the Twitter feed at the top of the page, I'm using a custom js script via my friend Subbu Sastry. He has created a widget framework that processes JSON data APIs from various sites (digg, delicious, twitter, etc.), and it is already in use on Newstrust.net. He then helped me apply it specifically for my Twitter speech bubble. The big plus of the script is that it can process the data feeds entirely within javascript without requiring server side hooks.
- Using Mollom for spam protection for the first time. So far, so good. The spam on my Wordpress site BURIED me.
- Using the still-beta Prev/Next API for Drupal. Basically, it allows you to navigate within content items of the same type with "previous" and "next" buttons. A cron run will order your nodes of that type, enabling you to get the next/prev information from a node. As you can see on Featured Photos, I further customized it so there is a clickable thumbnail of the next & previous featured photo.
So, yes, no earth-shattering changes, but I hope to continue to use this space as a place to explore and test. And share obnoxiously cute photos of my dog.
In addition, with this new site, I'll be able to post blog entries here, but also have Drupal-related posts feed into my work group blog, over at Advomatic. Hooray for eliminating duplicate posting!
